Electrical Power System Engineer

Are you motivated to make an impact beyond Earth? We are seeking a skilled Electrical Power System Engineer to become a key member of our Avionics Team. In this role, you will drive the design, procurement, and integration of power subsystems for current and future spacecraft projects, contributing to technologies that will shape the future of space exploration.

The Role

As an integral part of our team, you will:

  • Lead Design Initiatives: Develop high-level architectures and detailed electronics designs for power subsystems, from initial specification through to full integration.
  • Innovate for Future Missions: Spearhead the development of next-generation power solutions, ensuring our systems are ready for upcoming challenges.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with various engineering teams to align power subsystem strategies with overall spacecraft design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Subsystem Engineering: Provide comprehensive engineering for power subsystems, encompassing both high-level system architecture and detailed electronics design.
  • Power Electronics Development: Contribute to in-house power electronics design efforts, ensuring robust and efficient power management.
  • Requirements Management: Perform detailed requirements analysis, including flow-up and flow-down processes related to spacecraft power systems and associated hardware interfaces.
  • Budget & Modeling: Maintain spacecraft power budgets and develop parametric models to guide subsystem performance.
  • EMC Analysis: Analyze electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) constraints and propose effective mitigation measures.
  • Test Equipment Definition: Assist in defining power-related test equipment to support verification processes.
  • RFP & Subcontractor Oversight: Draft and support Requests for Proposals (RFPs), review vendor responses, and manage subcontractor relationships for key hardware deliverables.
  • Validation & Verification: Define comprehensive validation, verification, and test plans, and support the integration and testing phases with thorough documentation and reporting.
  • Flight Operations Support: Provide ongoing support for flight operations and generate lifecycle documentation, including design reviews, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and operational procedures.
  • Customer & Project Reviews: Assist in preparing materials for customer and project reviews, and contribute to the architecture and product development of future spacecraft power systems.

Must-Have:

  • Educational Background: A BSc/MSc degree in Power Management, Electronics, Aerospace, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Experience: At least 5 years of experience in power systems or electrical engineering, with a focus on systems or power electronics roles.
  • Industry Expertise: Demonstrated experience in the space industry with power electronics and subsystems, including power conditioning and distribution, DC/DC converters, solar array regulation and drive mechanisms, and battery management.
  • Team Collaboration: A proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and a willingness to engage with colleagues beyond your immediate expertise.
  • Communication & Analysis: Excellent communication and analytical skills, with a strong record of contributing to formal program reviews (MDR, PDR, CDR, etc).
  • Spacecraft Implementation: Hands-on experience with spacecraft power systems and implementation processes.

Nice to Have:

  • A detailed understanding of the analysis, design, build, and test cycle for power electronics.
  • Experience with actuator and motor drive electronics.
  • Practical, hands-on electronics design and testing experience, including fault diagnosis.
  • Familiarity with common space standards (ECSS, MIL, etc.) and the ability to apply associated tailoring effectively.
