The Role: CTO

This is a hands-on early-stage technology leadership role. You’ll set the vision, architecture, and technical culture while remaining involved in development initially as the team scales. You move fast, think pragmatically, and can balance building with leading.

This role is not for:

  • People comfortable with unlimited budgets and big teams

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Own engineering: architecture, velocity, quality, hiring
  • Define the long-term technical vision and roadmap
  • Architect scalable systems for enterprise clients globally
  • Make pragmatic decisions balancing speed vs. scalability
  • Establish engineering best practices and delivery metrics
  • Ensure technology choices solve real problems

Hands-On Technical Leadership (Early Stage)

  • Remain technically close to the product and architecture, with the ability to dive deep when needed to unblock teams or validate decisions.
  • Support engineers through technical reviews, pairing, and mentoring
  • Hands-on involvement is expected at the architectural and technical decision level, with coding involvement driven by context rather than expectation.
  • Ensure end-to-end delivery quality across the engineering organization.
  • Ensure strong engineering execution as the team grows

Scaling & Team Building

  • Hire and develop a high-performing engineering team
  • Build a culture of ownership, speed, and customer obsession
  • Introduce lightweight processes that support scale, not slow it
  • Mentor engineers and support their growth

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with founders on product, operations, and commercial strategy
  • Translate business priorities into technical execution
  • Work with telecom providers, integrations, and external partners
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Who You Are

Essential Experience

  • Leadership: Previously led engineering as Head of Engineering, CTO, Principal Engineer, or VP Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Scale-up background: Real experience in fast-growing startups with real constraints (scrappy, lean, resource-conscious, not unlimited-budget corporates)
  • B2B SaaS expertise: Built or scaled enterprise-grade platforms, not consumer apps
  • Proven scaling: Demonstrated success scaling engineering teams, systems, and processes
  • Track record: You’ve seen companies grow from Series A → Series C, or similar high-growth trajectory

Technical Foundation

  • You have hands-on experience with:
  • React + TypeScript and modern frontend patterns
  • Python or Node.js (FastAPI/Flask a plus)
  • PostgreSQL and solid database design fundamentals
  • Docker, CI/CD, and cloud platforms (GCP preferred)
  • Comfort across frontend, backend, and infrastructure at a high level
