About the Opportunity
We are supporting a confidential technology company in the search for an experienced Principal Software Engineer.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will influence architecture, mentor senior engineers, and help shape the technical direction of a growing engineering organisation. You’ll work closely with engineering leadership and product teams to solve complex technical challenges while remaining involved in software design and delivery.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys building scalable systems, improving engineering practices, and raising the technical bar across multiple teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve scalable software architectures.
- Lead technical discussions and drive key architectural decisions.
- Build high-quality, production-ready software with a focus on reliability and performance.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through technical leadership and code reviews.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Leadership teams to balance technical excellence with business priorities.
- Improve engineering standards, testing practices, observability, and operational excellence.
- Help define long-term technology strategy while remaining hands-on when required.
- Support teams in solving complex technical problems across distributed systems and cloud environments.
What We’re Looking For
- Extensive experience building and shipping production software.
- Strong backend engineering experience using languages such as Python, Java, Go, C#, or similar.
- Experience designing scalable distributed systems and modern software architectures.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native development (AWS, Azure or GCP).
- Experience working with APIs, databases, messaging systems and event-driven architectures.
- Ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and raising engineering standards.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with both technical and business stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Kubernetes, Docker and Infrastructure as Code.
- CI/CD pipeline ownership.
- Data platforms, distributed computing or platform engineering.
- AI, Machine Learning or LLM-based applications.
- Experience in SaaS, FinTech or other high-scale technology environments.
